Lucy
Lucy / F / 2Y / 36lbs / Mixed Breed / Fostered in Owen Sound
Lucy didn't get much socialization or freedom early in life, so the world is still very new to her. She can be cautious around new people, crowds, and big open spaces — but watching her grow more confident every single day has been an absolute joy. She greets new friends with a little hesitation, but she always warms up and happily accepts a treat once she realizes they're safe.
In the house, Lucy is an absolute dream. She has free roam with zero issues, has never needed a crate, and can be left alone for hours (we're talking up to 4 hours!) without a single sign of separation anxiety or destructive behaviour. She's respectful, calm, and content to nap or follow you quietly from room to room.
She's smart, food-motivated, and already knows door respect, "wait," "sit/stay," and "leave it." She's working on learning to truly relax and enjoy calming activities like massages, gentle playtime, and her favourite — afternoon naps.
Some of Lucy's favourite things:
Earning her special treats
Playing (and "smiling"!) with her stuffed toys
Cuddling on the couch for dog-video marathons
Rolling in the grass and finding a good stick
She loves her two daily walks (where she's a leash-walking superstar) and small play sessions throughout the day. If something overwhelms her on a walk, she simply hunkers down for a moment — a little patience and she bounces right back and carries on, tail wagging. She's also wonderful in the car, calm and curious, safely buckled into the back seat.
Lucy gets along beautifully with other dogs and has shown zero interest in chasing cats, squirrels, or rabbits. She doesn't guard food, treats, or toys at all — you can take anything from her without a flicker of concern. She really is just a sweet, gentle soul.
LUCY'S IDEAL HOME:
A fenced backyard so she can run and play freely
Another confident, friendly dog in the home to help show her the ropes
A family with time for daily walks and patience as she continues building confidence
People who are home more often than not
Comfortable with kids 12+
A quiet, low traffic neighbourhood
Lucy is currently on a small dose of trazodone twice daily to help ease her anxiety while she navigates new experiences. With time and stability, she'll likely be able to come off it — but it will help her transition smoothly into her new home and continue gaining the confidence she's already shown so much of.
