Wookie / M / 8Y / 18lbs / Mini Schnauzer mix / Fostered in Owen Sound 

If you're looking for a low-key companion who's happy just to be near you, Wookie might be your guy. This calm, relaxed senior gentleman has mastered the art of the good life: eating, sleeping, and the occasional short stroll.

Wookie is low energy and easygoing — he enjoys two short walks a day (about 1 km each), and if he decides he's had enough, he'll let you know by pulling back toward home (and honestly, he usually wins that negotiation). He's got good leash manners otherwise, rides like a champ in the car, and does well with other dogs similar in size to him, cats, and kids (6+) . He'll give a bigger dog a little warning growl if approached, then simply carries on his way.

He's a bit head-shy when meeting new people at first, but warms up quickly once he feels safe. No separation anxiety, no resource guarding — just a mellow soul who's content whether he's getting attention or quietly doing his own thing. Speaking of which, Wookie isn't a couch-or-bed kind of dog — he'd rather stretch out on the floor, as close to his foster mom as possible.

He's not crate trained — he's a trusted free roamer who's been left home alone for up to 7 hours without a single issue. He just needs a few potty breaks throughout the day. He does have calcium keratopathy which impairs his vision but no medication is required at this time. He has a luxating patella but gets around fine and surgery is not required. He has early kidney disease but does not require medication at this time. He has a dental scheduled for Sept 22nd (cleaning and multiple extractions). 

He is very food motivated and currently working on taking treats a little more gently — he gets excited! And that fur… it's some of the softest you'll ever feel.

Wookie would love a home with someone who appreciates the sweetness of an older, laid-back dog and can match his relaxed pace of life.
