Beatrix

Beatrix / F / 11Y/ 6.5lbs / Chihuahua / Fostered in Owen Sound

Beatrix came to us from a shelter after her previous owner was incarcerated. This sassy girl has so much love to give and is ready to find a devoted companion to spend her golden years with.

Beatrix is the ultimate cuddle bug. Her favourite place in the world is snuggled up on the couch with her person, especially when they're scratching her back - she'll bounce up and down with pure joy! She's calm, quiet, and remarkably well-mannered. She doesn't bark when people enter the house and is generally content to relax and enjoy your company. When she does want to play, she'll gently mouth your hand - that's her sweet way of engaging with you. She is a sweet girl with some spice. She will speak her mind and let you know when she doesn’t like something with a growl or nip.

Beatrix is fully crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night in her crate, waiting patiently until you open the gate in the morning. In typical chihuahua fashion, potty training is a work in progress - she's been using pee pads during the cold weather (she's definitely not a fan of the cold!). She's trusted to free roam during the day and can be left alone without issue - she's been left for up to 8 hours once a week with no problems and no separation anxiety.

Beatrix has a grade 2 heart murmur that requires no medication at this time. During her spay, a mammary mass was removed and biopsied. It was identified as a Grade 1 adenocarcinoma with clean margins, which means there is very low risk of metastasis or regrowth. No further treatment is recommended, though her new family should monitor closely for any new masses. She also had dental while in our care and only has a few remaining teeth.

Beatrix thinks she owns the house and will occasionally growl at the cats in her foster home, though she has never hurt them. This is something she's working on, and she'd likely do best as the only pet or with calm, small dogs who respect her space (she is nervous of dogs larger than her). She is great when meeting new people. Kids 14+

She prefers couch cuddles over walks and she would be fine in a house or an apartment.
