Tommy / M / 3Y / 20lbs / Shih Tzu / Fostered in Owen Sound
Tommy is a cuddly, outgoing sweetheart who wants to be wherever you are. Call his name and he'll come running! He follows his foster mom everywhere, whether that's around the house or out in the yard while she rakes leaves. He's also happy to explore the backyard on his own, and his favourite spot is on the couch beside you, especially first thing in the morning.
Tommy is friendly, social, and a little bit vocal. He loves meeting everyone, dogs and people alike, and can't wait for a pet. He'll also let you know when the neighbour dogs are out, or if you're taking too long to get to a new friend on your walk. When he's not busy making friends, you'll find him sitting at the front window watching the world go by.
Tommy is a good walker who gets a half hour walk in the morning and afternoon, plus a short one before bed. Once he's had his exercise, he's happy to nap or follow you around, so he's low energy for the rest of the day. He is currently on a weight loss plan.
Tommy is a work in progress on leash. He doesn't pull all the time anymore, but he's eager to get to the next tree or telephone pole, and he pulls when he spots a dog or person because he wants to say hi. His excitement can be a bit much for others, so he needs a consistent, patient handler to keep working on leash manners and polite greetings. He prefers to do his business on walks rather than in the yard.
Tommy has been left alone for up to three hours and is very happy to see you when you return. He may have a touch of separation anxiety, or he may just be thrilled you're back! He's trustworthy with the run of the house, and he's also great in his crate in the car on both short and long trips.
Tommy lives with another dog and they get along well. They've had a few "discussions" over food, so he'd do best with meals served separately. He loves kids, though he barked once at a young child who moved quickly, so he'd do best with kids who can learn to be calm and respectful around him. He has shown interest in cats on walks but hasn't been tested with them.
His ideal home is a family with kids, with or without another friendly dog, who will keep up with his leash training and give him lots of cuddles on the couch.
