Duchess / F / 8Y / 18lbs / Miniature Schnauzer mix / Fostered in Owen Sound 

Duchess is a sweet, affectionate senior girl who has so much love to give. This calm and gentle lady is looking for a quiet home where she can spend her time being cherished and adored.

Duchess is a cuddle enthusiast who loves nothing more than relaxing beside her favourite people. She's incredibly loving and gentle, with a peaceful demeanor that makes her a joy to be around. Her favourite activities include leisurely walks around the neighborhood, enjoying tasty treats, and exploring her surroundings at her own pace.

This easygoing girl has been doing wonderfully with house training and will communicate when she needs to go outside. She's reliable for 6-7 hours overnight and does well with bathroom breaks every 3 hours during the day. Duchess is trustworthy when left alone in a dog-proofed area and is also comfortable in a crate. She's been left alone for up to 3 hours without any concerns.

Duchess has mature cataracts that have left her blind, though she can still perceive light. This doesn't slow her down much, but it does mean she needs some special considerations. She appreciates a verbal greeting or gentle announcement before being touched so she isn't startled. Stairs should be blocked off for her safety, and she would do best with a canine companion who respects her space and won't startle her. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, and she's friendly when meeting new people.

Her leash manners are good (though she does enjoy a bit of zigzagging!), and she's a great car passenger. While she hasn't shown interest in toys, she finds plenty of joy in life's simple pleasures. She is low/medium energy. Duchess currently takes meloxicam once daily for mild arthritis and has recently had a dental procedure.

Duchess' ideal home includes a quiet neighbourhood with someone who can be home often to provide the companionship and affection she craves. She would thrive with an adopter who can take her on multiple short walks throughout the day and provide a calm, predictable environment. She is good with kids 10+.
